I am more of an instructional designer than a teacher, which means that I emphasize how learners feel and what they learn more than what teachers deliver--a student-cente red teacher/tutor .

Teaching Experience

I had taught ESL for a couple of years, which equipped me with understanding and skills and knowledge of facilitating second language acquisition. My ESL learners ranged from pre-schoolers to adult learners. I now teach Mandarin at a non-profit organization in Vancouver. It's a small-sized class, with all of them are pre-schoolers to 1st and 2nd graders.

My undergraduate major is foreign language and literature, which provided me with the comprehensive knowledge of linguistics, literatures, and language teaching, especially teaching English as a second language. My graduate major deals with educational technology and learning design. This cultivates me better curriculum design proficiency. After receiving the training to be a Mandarin teacher, I have the Certificate of Teaching Mandarin as a Second Language, issued by Ministry of Education Taiwan.

Q1:What is your teaching schedule?
A1 : If it's asynchronous virtual setting, you can count on my prompt response. If it is synchronous virtual setting, then we will figure out the time difference issue. If it is physical on-site setting, weekends, together with weekday late afternoon and evening, will work better for me.
Q2:What is your payment policy?
A2: Payment should be made before sessions start.
Q3: What other relevant experience makes you a more effective teacher?
A3: I have lots of learning facilitation experiences, with the learners diverse in ages and academic backgrounds. I had tutored Canadian native youth at Frontier College for a year and also designed interesting activities for community ESL adult learners to learn English.
