Teaching Approach

My lessons are unique because I am a really fun, enthusiastic teacher with many years of teaching ESL. My focus in communication -based in that I want the student to first be able to get their ideas across in English. If poor grammar interferes with that, then we focus on grammar. What I usually find is a reluctance to speak and try new ways of communicating . I don't let grammar intimidate students into being silent because they don't want to make any mistakes.

Program Description

I can help you improve your English by working over the Internet. I will assign quality, Internet-base d lessons, the student will complete them, and then we will go over them together by phone or Internet chat. I can also help revise essays in English and then go over the mistakes and categorize them by area of grammar. In that way, the student will get a better understanding of his/her common mistakes and be able to avoid them in the future.

Teaching Experience

I taught a second language in an American high school for 7 years full-time with over 160 students per semester. I've taught ESL at an ESL and TOEFL school for about 5 years. I've been tutoring and teaching students individually for most of that time.

Teacher Training

I received my B.A. from UC Santa Barbara and graduated with honors.

I received my teaching credential from Cal State Fullerton in 1991.

I speak Spanish also and attended a Summer Institute sponsored by the University of San Diego for two summers.

You can pay me for 10 lessons in advance by mail. I will cash the check and after it clears, we begin our lessons.

$35 per hour (rates are negotiable depending on the student's situation and willingness to learn)
