My teaching approach uses context and associative learning techniques to help students find familiarity in the symbols of the Chinese characters and in the pronunciation and tones of the Chinese syllables. My goal is to minimize the mental pain normally associated with learning the Chinese language.

Program Description

I have broad English and Mandarin language teaching experience, classroom, small groups, and one-on-one individualize d instruction. Very careful attention is paid at all levels to proper pronunciation and the tones.

Children * Children songs, toys, character coloring and imaginative stories.

Young Adult * Personalized or standard programs. Standard programs according to Integrated Chinese text and workbook series or Contemporary Chinese text and workbook series. Personalized programs based on the student's goals, and may include historical contexts to aid in character memorization and tone-visualiz ation techniques to aid memorization of the tones.

Adults * The same as for the Young Adults; however, with much greater personalizati on and much greater reliance on context learning for character and tone memorization. Adults over the age of 25 seem to benefit greatly from context and associative learning; that understanding the picture behind the character facilitates natural immediate memorization of the character.
