I am university student looking to pursue graduate studies in history and politics. Starting in September I will be taking a sabbatical before my return to advanced studies the year after. I am particularly interested in learning Arabic because much of my area of interest have centered around the conflicts of the 20th century and have begun to be frustrated by needing translation (often conflicting) of original sources. Although, I have no previous experience with the language I am willing to put in as much time as necessary to develop it. I have previous studied some other languages considered difficult for native English speaker because they are non-romance and non-germanic (Basque and Ulster Gaelic). I am planning to take my leave in Antakya because of my previous interest in the history of Antioch and on connections with colleges studying/arch eologically digging there.
I understand that there is a large Arab speaking minority in Antakya and I am just hoping that a native speaker proficient enough in English could teach me. I would prefer a native speaker who can teach me with a focus on reading and listening with high levels of comprehension as well some simple/common /important connotations.
