I am an advanced reader, and theoretically an advanced speaker but it is rather out of practice. I have taken advanced university arabic, and spent two semesters in the middle east learning classical arabic. My writing could use some work, but I am most interested in reading/liste ning/speaking.

-I am a beginner in Arabic. I have already taken the first Arabic language class offered the University of Ottawa. We learned the alphabet, the numbers from 1 to 10, about 100 nouns/adjecti ves, demonstrative and posessive pronouns, a few personal pronouns, the definite article and how to contruct simple sentences with the verb 'to be'.
-Right now, learning Arabic is more of a hobby for me. However, in the long term, this could also bring some professional advantages, as I have a degree in translation.
-Grammar and conversation are most important for me.
-I would be willing to commit about 2 hours a week for lessons.
-I am available in the evening and weekends.

I seek a teacher who can help me first master conversationa l Arabic (Middle Eastern) and then perhaps to assist me in learning written Arabic inclusive of reliogios Arabic so that I will be able to read anything ranging from newspapers to religious texts in arabic.
Th at said, my primary goal is to learn how to speak Arabic.
In the past I have been excellent student but it has been more than 16 years since I completed my post-graduate education and the brain, I understand, can grow rusty.
I thrive on challenge so learning a difficult language like Arabic does not deter me. That said, I require a teacher who can make the class and course work very interesting. For me, this could be using real newspaper articles in lessons, poetry or watching films in Arabic, or challenging me to order a meal in Arabic. Anything but the traditional and boring methods that only utilize textbooks.
Ideally, I would like to have 1 lesson per week and assignments that I could complete before the next lesson.
