I would like to be proficient to a decent degree when I move back to Canada in a few years. It would also be useful professionall y to be able to converse effectively.
I am currently a beginner level, I spent the summer of 2013, taking a one-month intensive French course for the first time in Montreal, so I am a level 2b if that means any thing to some teachers.
I would like to focus on getting a feel for the language. That is to say I can structure a sentence 4 or 5 ways in English, but presently may be at most 2 ways in french. So grammar is the first thing I'd like to focus on. Second, I need conversationa l french. I do not know the 'normal phrases' for french for many things that I know in english. I have created a list of things I'd like to learn in french. I have some ideas on how I could learn it better, i would like it if my teacher was open to that and I am of course open to a more formal method of teaching.
Lastly, I can hear the words when people speak usually if they speak slowly, but I can't if they're speaking quickly. I'd like to work on that as well and on understanding accents.
