Salut à tous !
I've been teaching myself French on and off for a couple of months. In terms of understanding French native speakers, I am past the basics of pleasantries, time-telling, asking for directions etc. I can follow and pick up on casual conversations . I can read simple French at a level like 'le petit prince', even though there are some words I need to look up in a dictionary. Basically I am self-motivate d and want to improve my conversationa l French beyond the level I'm currently at. I am keen also to work on my grammar. I have been for many years, interested in French culture, in particular French music and novelists and I would like (one day), to be of the level where I could read comfortably French fiction in its original language.
In terms of time - I am committed to practising everyday and would be very happy to have once a week lessons, at least. I am looking for a teacher who is able to prescribe me lessons according to my needs as a student, and not one who gives me a set text that's designed for big groups in language schools. I find the pace of these courses slow and frustrating. I learn fast and I have a natural inclination to languages, I think. So I would like to have a teacher who is able to capitalise on my strengths and structure for me lessons that will enable me to learn the language in constructive and enjoyable ways. My short term goal is for me to speak with native speakers comfortably, in the next 6 months. My long term goal, is to speak, write and read French like a native person. I am willing to put in the hard work needed!
