I haven't any knowledge of Spanish, so I would consider myself a beginner. I would like to learn to speak Spanish, because I have friends who speak Spanish and co-workers. Also, I would like to speak to people I encounter on a daily basis that don't speak English. It would be nice to have conversation with them and get to know them better. I would like to be able to study at least one hour every day. I feel I can learn grammar well, but I have a hard time with conversation. I need to hear it more. My friend that tries to teach me at work, speaks much too quickly and far too advanced. I need someone with the teaching ability to go at my pace.

Proficiency: I consider myself to be at the beginner/inte rmediate level in learning Spanish. I have mastered conjugating in most tenses and my vocabulary is enough to get me around in a Spanish-speak ing place. On the downside though, I have yet to master irregular verbs and build a more comprehensive vocabulary for wider conversationa l topics. I can understand Spanish when I'm reading it (especially if I have a dictionary on hand for those words not commonly encountered). My problem is with spoken Spanish -- I can barely understand Spaniards when they speak because they talk too fast, and I'm hoping I can improve in this area.
Purp ose for learning: Basically, just for personal growth. I consider Spanish an interesting language. Considering also that it's one of the most commonly-spok en languages in the world, mastering Spanish would certainly prove to be a useful asset.
Are as of improvement: As mentioned earlier, I have trouble understanding spoken Spanish, especially when the speaker talks too fast. I have had Spaniards tell me that they understand my Spanish and that I speak the language well, but I think that was because we were just talking about casual topics like the weather or where I'm from. Basically, I would like a more comprehensive grasp of spoken Spanish and to be able to carry a conversation, especially when the topics become more complicated.
Time to dedicate to lessons: I could study as often as three times a week as long as it's afer office hours.
Qua lities looked for in a teacher: I suppose the first thing I would ask for from a teacher is patience. Having graduated from school almost ten years now, my mind isn't as sharp as it used to be when it comes to studying or learning new things.

I'm a very fast learner, and I'm told I have an aptitude for languages. I excelled in my Intermediate French class, and I'm starting Advanced French in the Fall. I'm looking to learn both Spanish and Chinese over the summer because 1) I have Spanish-Chine se heritage, 2) I love learning new languages and these are the first two on my list, after French, and 3) everyone in my mom's side of the family, as well as everyone in school, speaks Spanish -- why can't I?

I am somewhere between beginner and intermediate level; familiar with verb conjugations and have quite a wide vocabulary.
As well as attending beginners group classes, I have received private tuition and have studied quite alot but cannot seem to put it together and get it out of my mouth.
I am staying in Coyoacan, Mexico city and the inability to communicate in more than a few stilted words is not good. My hope is to put it together in an intensive week, although that might be a bit ambitious.
My hope is that, with a tutor who is prepared to push me and not allow English during lessons, I will possibly achieve conversation quite quickly.
