I'm an expat from the Netherlands, working on a part-time (50%) basis in johannesburg. Being a native Dutch speaker, I'm interested in learning to understand, and especially speak Afrikaans better than just based on intuition, although I do not really need to use Afrikaans professionall y.
I'm available to take lessons after 7 o'clock at night only, one (live)lesson every one or two weeks, depending on my travel schedule.
Al though almost completely new to the language, I noticed I hardly have any problems reading the newspaper and simple stories. I understand quite a bit of formal conversation, such as the radio, but I'm struggling to understand informal conversation and find myself unable to utter understandabl e sentences.

I travel to South Africa every year and would like to communicate with people in Afrikaans. My level is beginner. I understand easy texts quite well as I can speak a bit Dutch but that is why I also get a bit mixed up with the grammar. I hardly try to speak as I'm not sure about thr right pronunciation . I want to learn the language from the basics & I prefer having a few excerices so that I can repeat things on my own.
