My duaghter is a sophomore at Westmont High School in Campbell. She is taking second year Spanish. She finished first year Spanish with a D+ and clearly did not catch on very well. I would like to find a person to help me learn arabic (egyptian). I have very close people to me who are egyptian and am studying Islam as well. I have spoken little arabic over the last 2 years and went to Egypt the summer of 2004. I would like to start with conversation. I live in India for 10 months of the year. I am already semi-fluent in Nepali and as a result can understand some Hindi. Since I occasionally travel outside my Nepali speaking area and into Hindi speaking regions I am interested in aquiring basic speaking skills.
I will be home through Jan 2005 and am interested to take some lessons in that time.

I have taken two intensive beginner's courses, and one intensive intermediate course, in Croatia (Zagreb, Zadar, and Dubrovnik). I understand approximately 50% of normal conversation, and have a good command of basic grammar (cases and verb tenses; prepositions and syntax are shakier). I am learning Croatian in order to conduct long-term ethnographic field research in Croatia and Bosnia approximately one year from now, and so it is most important to me that I greatly improve my conversation abilities -- speaking and listening comprehension -- as soon as possible. I would also like to be able to proficiently read newspapers and write *basic* texts (i.e., letters and e-mails).
