Hello
My name is Stephanie,and I am interested in being tutored in the polish language. I come from a polish up brining (mothers side only), and are already familar with the sound, pronunciatins , and simple phrases. I regret my mother not instilling the language more in our upbrining, and would like to become fluent for several reasons. I currently live 10 hours away from family members which make it difficult for learning. I would like to be tutored in grammer and conversation. I have several relatives in Poland that I have met, however, half of them do not understand english. I would like to be able to write letters and visit more frequently, but am held back in doing so because communication is difficult. Mostly all of my family members on my mothers side are holocaust survivors and I respect my heratiage too much to not know the language. I also will be going to gradute school, and am required to know a second language. I would like for it to be polish. It is important to me, that if I am to have kids, that they know the miracle of being a second generation american. If there are any possible tutors, I am interested in 60 to 90 minute sessions at least once a week. I am interested in a teacher with credentials of a collage degree in polish, or a native speaker. I am a student with no experience with Chinese, but a strong desire to learn the language. I have quite a bit of free time this summer before I start law school and decided that a good way to spend this time would be to begin to learn a new language. With that in mind, I started researching international economies on the rise. Obviously China came up. Learning the language seems like a perfect investment. My law school also has an exchange program in Beijing that I would like to take part in at some point.
While I likely won't have time throughout the coming school year to continue taking classes, I plan to start again the following summer. I understand that you need practice to stay sharp, but with the first year of law school coming up, that's the best I can do for now.

I have worked independently with audio programs and textbooks, and have become quite proficient at reading and understanding Italian, as well as at both speaking and listening skills. My main interest is in Italian literature, and in that realm the poetry of Leopardi is of particular appeal. This can indicate something of my proclivities.
While I would like a tutor who can explicate grammatical concepts, and correct my spoken or written errors, my main interest is in becoming truly adept at reading and comprehending on deeper levels Italian literature. I work well in an atmosphere of mutual exploration, with a teacher who is very flexible--if I suddenly become interested in a topic or a writer perceived to be 'tangential', I want to be free to move in that direction. Spontaneous responses to intriguing subjects is FAR more important to me than gaining some sort of academic mastery of a field, such as one would need in order to pursue a particular degree or defined level of proficiency. My teacher should understand that I learn for the love of learning, and not for any external assessments, degrees, etc., and so should be ready to be led by me and my interests into directions I find fascinating.
