Hello i am a beginner of mandarin chinese. I have taken about 2 months of college chinese 101. I am retaking this class this semester and i am in need of a refresher course. I need improvement on symbol writting and understanding . I am looking to put as much time as needed. My background is Ukrainian and Polish. Both of my parents were born in Europe and came to the United States in the 50s. Aside from hearing Ukrainian from my mother and grandparents, I received no formal instruction in the language. My proficiency is at the beginnner level. My grandmother only speaks Ukrainian at this time, and I am looking for formal language instruction to be able to communicate with her. I also teach preschool in Chicago and feel that a second language would be beneficial to me as an educator. It has been difficult for me to find a beginning Ukrainian class for English speakers. I am interested in either small class or individual instruction.
