I am just starting to learn Khmer via books and Cd Roms, but I would love a helping hand. I am learning Khmer because I just got back from Cambodia and am very interested in the language, the culture and the people. I would like to return to Cambodia one day as an aid worker or something similar. I am willing to dedicate 2-3 hrs a week on Khmer lessons and I am also more than happy to travel. The qualities I am looking for are patience and also basic English skills.

I am a beginner and looking for a khmer language teacher. The reason for my wanting to learn the language is simply as an interest in the language and for personal development. I currently work full time but am generally available on weeknights. Weekends are also a possiblity however weeknights would be preferred. As I am currently a beginner i would like to learn everything from the basics up, the language, pronounciatio n etc.
I am not sure as to exactly how much time per week it would require, but my purpose is to achieve decent conversationa l skills within 1 year. I think that a few hours a week may be appropriate but am open to the suggestions of the teachers themselves.

I am a 29 year old female who has a successful career in IT and Learning & Development consulting. Adult education has always been an interest of mine. The only language I speak is English (but I hope to change that!).
I have just returned from a holiday to Cambodia and I was enchanted by the country and, even more so, by its people. I have returned determined to teach myself Cambodian and return their to teach english in the next 18mths. I have long been looking for an opportunity to explore another culture and diversify (or perhaps just take a break) from my current career path.
I learnt french in high school but that's about the extent of my language experience. I am prepared to devote time daily and realise it will require at least 2000 hrs of study for me to develop a level of proficiency. At this stage, I am unsure as to what level of proficiency a foreign teaching organisation requires of its teachers. I'll need help and advice in all these areas and Brisbane Australia has no teaching resources that I am aware of.
I would sincerely appreciate and enjoy communication and instruction from anyone willing to help me along the way.
