I am definately a beginner with the Albanian language. I've been in Kosovo since April, 2004 and have barely picked up yes, no and good morning. It's not because I haven't tried, it's just a very difficult language for me.
I'm trying to learn because I want to be able to communicate better with those around me. Wether it be my landlord, a waiter or just a stranger on the street. I'm in their Country, I need to try my best to learn the language. Right now, I'm more interested in general conversation, if I clear that hurdle, reading would be second on my list.
I'll dedicate as much time as possible and as much time as my teacher thinks I need. I work 7 days a week, but I'm usually home by 1700. Not much time, but time enough to try and learn.
As far as what I'm looking for in a teacher. Well, first and foremost, they will have to have plenty of patience. A good sense of humor goes right along with that, so when I absolutley mess a word up, we can both laugh. Just a decent person who will be willing to try and help me communicate better.

I am a Ph.D. student at the McGill University. I am studying anthropology and planning to do fieldwork in Kosovo. Before I will be going to Kosovo, I need to learn the Albanian language.
I am a beginner and haven't had Albanian language classes beofore. The areas in which I feel I need particular improvement is grammer and conversation.
I would like to dedicate three hours of language lessons per week.

I am a complete beginner. My boyfriend's family is ethnic Albanian (Montenegro region) and I would like to be able to speak and understand at family events, etc. I am more concerned with conversationa l skills than written fluency, however based on past experience learning other languages, the two tend to go together for me. I work long/unpredic table hours during the week and therefore would need to have lessons on Saturday mornings. I am looking for an actual teacher (not someone who merely speaks the language) who builds his or her lessons on fundamentals (i.e. grammar, verb conjugation) and who will be willing to meet me in Manhattan for lessons.
