I have just started to learn Cantonese. I can say a few basic things. I would like to be able to understand have be able to converse in Cantonese. I would like to spend a 3 - 5 hours a week learning. This of course depends on availability and hourly rate. I am looking for a qualified teacher that has a fairly structured course which would allow be to speak fairly quickly.

I can speak cantonese however, I want to learn the cantonese characters; reading and writing. I can go up to 2 hours per lesson per day in terms of learning the characters. I'm looking for a well qualified and experienced instructor.

Hello,
Alth ough I only speak english right now it has always been a desire of mine to become bilingual. Having moved to BC from Ontario at first I wanted to learn French because it was the next most widely spoken language I was near. Although I would still love to take up learning the language, I feel that the demographics of Vancouver offer me a much greater chance to practice what I am learning if I persue Cantonese. Also, having a Chinese partner who is bilingual also presents the perfect opportunity to use what I learn outside of classes. My desire to learn Cantonese also stems from an inability to communicate clearly with my partner's family. Being active in politics as I am, speaking Chinese - with China a rising power in the world - would be an advantage I am very interested in acquiring. For all these reasons I am willing to put time and money into learning a new language.
I would be taking on this language as a beginner. I want to learn conversationa l Cantonese first, moving on to grammer and business later on. I work regular fulltime hours Monday to Friday and would be available from 10 am to 2 pm through the week for classes. In person lessons in small to medium groups would facilitate me best - although I am open to other options as well. I would like to start as soon as possible.
