My spouses family is filipino (tagalog). I would like to learn the language and interact with them. My spouse doesn't know the language and if we have children I want to be able to teach them.
I am a beginner. I would like to know how to converse, read, and write in this language. I would like to dedicate as much time as I can to learn. The qualities in a teacher that I look for is patience and is able to do a lot of one on one with me. He/she has to be able to answer my questions, as sometimes the questions I ask can be weird.

Spanish: Proficiency level is about intermediate. I have taken Spanish for 4 years, and I know the basics such as verb conjugation and such. I have recently stopped taking it, and I don't want to forget it.
Tagalog: Proficiency level is beginner as well. I know many people with Filipino ancestry, and I am curious about the language.
Mandarin: Proficiency level is beginner as well. I took Mandarin for maybe 2 or 3 years. I know basic greetings and numbers from 1-99. I know a couple of word spellings as well.

I would actually like the lessons for my children aged 4 and 5. Their father is from the Philippines but left when he was only 7. He can speak fluently but only when spoken to so he has a very difficult time speaking/teac hing it to the children. I personally think it is very important for them to have that piece from their Filipino culture. I have a program I use to try to learn and teach them basic things. We have worked on colors animals and some greetings though I know my pronunciation is not what it should be for proper learning. I would like them to learn so they have the ability to converse and understand their Filipino relatives.
