I want to learn this language as it is used extensively in the area where I live and work. I know this language a little but I want to become more fluent. I need improvement mostly in conversation. I wish to learn Punjabi because it is the first language of my wife and the only language of several of her family members.
M aintaining these relationships is important to me and being able to teach my children about their heritage would be facilitated by having a fully bilingual household.
I have been reading the Punjabi book in the 'Teach Yourself' series but consider myself a beginner.
Grammar and pronunciation are particular problems, but I do have exercises from the text series, so if time constraints become an issue I would prefer to focus on pronunciation and conversation, since they are more urgent requirements for social usage.
I am willing to dedicate as many as 3-4 hours per week to language study.
In a teacher, I would say tolerance and patience would be the most important qualities I would look for. My situation is not unique, but still fairly uncommon and I would greatly appreciate somebody who is more interested in satisfying a thirst for learning rather than judging my motivations.
