Hello there
I am a South African who is engaged to be married to a Pakistani who currently lives in Karachi, Pakistan.
Although he and his family speak English at home and speak to me in English, I feel that I would like to learn Urdu, as it is their native language and would like to converse with them and try to make them as comfortable as possible. The family is wonderful and have welcomed me and accepted that I do not understand Urdu.
I would describe myself as a BEGINNER, I have a 'teach yourself urdu book and cd set' - recently purchased and am very keen to learn to speak the language.
My main focus is to speak/convers e fluently with good grammar and vocabulary. Reading is secondary and writing is not important.
I am dedicated to learning and will dedicate as much time as is needed to get me comfortable with the language by End of year.
I'm looking for a teacher - who will have patience - its my first time and I am not familiar with the language at all, will guide me and provide me with good sentences that i could use in my life going forward when conversing with my future inlaws and my husband -to be. I would prefer organised lessons with common sentences together with vocabulary to be practiced and notes on pronunciation . Given that they are from Pakistan it would probably be best to have a teacher from Karachi or Lahore where there families reside - from what I understand spoken Urdu differs from India to Pakistan and sometimes even within each of these countries.

I need to learn Urdu language for my career advantage at work.
I don't know even basic Urdu language.
I need to know how to speak and understand Urdu.
Ateast 2 hours every day at night, around 8-10pm. And i need to learn soon as possible i can.

I took several Urdu language classes (at University in Germany as well as at private institutions) and see myself as an advanced beginner since I know how to read (familiar words) and write and am able to understand pretty well.
I want to advance especially my conversationa l skills for everyday use without neglecting basic grammar rules.
As of now, my plan is to have at least 2-3 sessions à 1.5 hours per week.
Favour able on working days after 5.30 pm.
Past experiences taught me that the learning environment is pretty important for successful learning. This means in practice that I prefer classroom situations over noisy and distractive places like parks etc.
I learned basic conversationa l Nepali very effective in an interactive classroom situation (with role plays etc.) course.
I wish to have a teacher who's not shy to mimic/use hands and foots/actions to liven up the learning material.
I've plenty of course books with me which can be used for the classes.
