I am looking for a tutor/teacher who would be willing to work with me on listening comprehension as well as speaking skills. I would assess myself as an intermediate beginner. I can read and write Urdu script and can make my way through basic conversations about self and family. My reasons for learning are for both personal (family/frien ds) as well as professional (potential move to India within the next few years).
Thus far I have used various resources for self study including Rosetta Stone's Hindi program, The Teach Yourself Urdu Books (by David Matthews and Mohamed Kasim Dalvi) and the new text 'Let's Study Urdu'. I'm a fairly focused self-learner but need someone with patience to help me work on spoken verb drills. I have a sense of how the language works grammatically I'm trying to now push myself to speak comfortably and expand my working vocabulary. I prefer a conversation approach sort of like the Berlitz method, where there is verbal repetition of vocabulary and the concept until it feels 'natural'.
Due to geographic constraints I imagine lessons would take place over the phone or through a voice chat program like SKYPE. In regards to length of sessions, I am thinking 1-2 hours at a time with an almost conversation immersion approach. I am a graduate student (Non Urdu related) and sometimes my schedule can get hectic. In the beginning I'm thinking maybe 1 to 2 sessions a week, ideally in the evenings (EST) with the expectation that I would continue working/playi ng with the language between sessions so that we can quickly move onto the next concept.

I am a beginner, with no knowledge of Urdu or Hindi. I am interested in learning it because I will be relocating to Hyderabad in a few months and would like to interact with Urdu speaking people.
I wish to spend 1.5-2 hours per day on language lessons.
I am primarily interested in conversationa l Urdu initially, and perhaps an introduction to poetry and music after a few months.

I have been practicing Urdu on my own since many years. I tried learning from chatrooms, from other social newtwork websites, through pen pals, newspapers, music, movies, books, chating forums, poetry websites many websites where ever urdu is written or is being talked in. You name it, I have tried it!
I struggled a lot and still am struggling to become fluent. I spend at least 8 hours every day since 7 years trying to learn but for some reason I cannot seem to figure out why I m still not fluent.
I really need to work on pronunciation and speaking. Correct sentence structer I need more improvement as well as grammer since I do not know which word is masculine or feminine.
But I lose attention very fast. So I need a teacher who really knows what they are doing and is good in explaining so I will feel comfortable with what I m doing as well as able to remember all I had learned and able to enjoy learning at the same time instead of losing hope. Someone who is patient.
I m very serious to become fluent and I can struggle to any level just to fullfill my dream.
I wish to start my learning from a beginning level.. I know a lot of urdu but I just don't feel comfortable with it, when I speak I have to think a lot. I wish to be able to speak it without having to think what verb to use and where to use it and in which form [present, future, past]
If you have the time and patience and love for teaching then I will be your perfect student.
T hanks for your time.
