Need to start from a beginner's level
Reas ons for wanting to learn the language
1 . Russian
On e of the writers who has made a profound impact on my life is Fyodor Dostoevsky. While I have read most of his key works in English, would want to investigate them in the language in which he wrote - Russian.
2 . Chinese & Tibetan
My current philosophical learnings are toward Mahayana Buddhism and Taoism. Specifically, have been reading Nagarjuna's thesis on Shunyata and the works of Lao Tzu, Chuang Tzu and Lieh Tzu. Would like to further my understanding through reading the actual chinese texts(transla ted from Sanskrit by Kumarajiva et al) and tibetan ones on Buddhism.
Also, want to learn chinese from the point of view of it being a pictoral language.
Depending on the kind of teacher I am able to find, would study one of these threee languages

I'm a beginner who is learning Tibetan because I go yearly to a Buddhist Monastery in Sikkim. I'm interested in learning Eastern Tibetan pronounciatio n rather than central. I'd like to learn the alphabet. I'd like to be able to have some simple conversations by this Summer because we are going to Tibet. By next spring I'd like to be even more proficient.

I am searching for a Tibetan language teacher. I am very much a beginner. I am interested in learning the language to support my Tibetan Buddhist practice. Therefore, I am interested in learning pronunciation for chanting, the original Tibetan script (as it is written in the sacred Buddhist texts), and the English transcription of the Tibetan Script. I am able to dedicate at least 3 hours a week to this language study. The only qualities I am looking for in a teacher are that they can teach me what I described above.
