First let me say that this profile is set up not only for myself, but for my boyfriend as well - we want to learn something together.
Proficiency Level

I am very much a beginner with Japanese - in fact, I just started working on it very recently. My boyfriend took some Japanese in college, so he has a better grasp. He will of course, need some refreshing. This is something that we want to work on together. As for the other languages, this representatio n is generally the same - I am an absolute beginner and my boyfriend knows some about it.
Reason for Learning

I think learning a language other than English is important because it gives you insight to other cultures and it can also be a boon in a career. This is the reason that I want to learn Japanese (as well as the other listed languages). My boyfriend is very much into languages (and has essentially set his life to to studying language). Japanese (as well as the other languages) is a language that we both find interesting and useful (obviously for different reasons - but that is moot, really).
A reas of Improvement

Both of us really need help from the beginning (again) - grammar, conversation, writing, the whole package.
A mount of Time to Dedicate

We' re willing to dedicate some time every day to work on language study/practic e. I can't really say how much (as I'm sure it will vary), but I will estimate that we could swing at least an hour every day.
Quali ties in a Teacher
---- -------------- ----
The qualities that we are looking for in a teacher are relatively simple. We want someone that is fluent in the language (prefer someone that is fluent in all forms of writing, too - but there might be exceptions), someone that is serious but fun to work with, someone that is down to earth and friendly, and someone that is not arrogant. Both of us have had classes in the past with arrogant teachers and we do not want to be a part of that anymore. We need a teacher that can get the message across (I'm a little slower on languages, and my boyfriend is a little faster) but keep us both interested. Another factor is cost - we want a tutor that isn't horribly expensive. Overall, we want structure - but we don't want it so rigid that we become uninterested.

My boyfriend is Icelandic and I am on my 5th visit to Iceland, staying for 2 months this time (Nov- Jan) I have struggled in learning the languauge from my boyfriend and his family and feel that I would have more success from an outside source. I know the Icelandic Alphabet and numbers, but that is about it. I am looking for a tutor for a few days a week. My schedule is VERY flexible and I can meet anywhere (I am staying in Grafarvogur).

I have been learning German for a year but not formally. I have been in and out of learning so in total it is much less than a year. I have had very little practice. But I have good idea of grammar (I hope)and some knowledge of essential vocabulary. I wish to have a teacher to assist me in tidying up the mess of my knowledge and make it useful.

I have been learning French for almost four years and I can read most of the text (with dictionary)an d speak a bit. I now need someone who can refine my French as well as improve my conversationa l skills which tend to be weaker.

Beginner for both Icelandic and Norwegian. But I have good idea of their grammar and am able to refer back to other languages I have learnt (or learning) in the past.
The purpose is mostly for fun. Except I will visit the countries some time in the future and I may even live there in distant future.
I am usually alright with writing and sometimes with listening. Other areas, I'm not so confident. Especially with Icelandic and Norwegian, I'm not sure with any area.
I want a teacher who can direct me to write and/or speak the language in an authentic way.

I've taken two levels at Mimir here in Reykjavik. I'm in the symphony, so I work in an environment where English is the primary working language and I seem to be able to understand a great deal, but speaking to people is just not coming as well. I'd really like to work hard on this

I am looking for an icelandic teacher for further studies. I completed level 4 at mimir, but need more training in using the grammar ect..
For the other languages: Russian: I know some grammar, but due to the fact that I never use it I forgot everything.
Spanish and Italian: I would love to speak one of those languages ;)
