I have a good friend who I met in New York and who is Pakistani and lives in Pakistan. I visited with my friend in Pakistan for one month in 2008 and had a great time. I enjoy the people and the culture very much and I wish to return to Pakistan and this time, to speak Urdu. I do not understand, read or speak the language, except for a few words. When I was ther in 2008, most of the people I met accommodated me and spoke English. This time I would like to speak to them in their own language. I don't want to learn to read the alphabet. I can read transliterati ons of the words.
I would like to take a conversation class in New York, and I prefer Brooklyn. I like to interact face to face. I can take a class once a week, and the time of day is flexible. I want to learn rules of grammar, sentence structure and pronunciation in a relaxed environment, but serious.

I am seeking to learn Urdu because my husband & his family speak Urdu. i also want our children to learn Urdu. I am a novice & would need to start at the beginning level. I am most interested in conversationa l Urdu so that when I meet with my husband's family and travel abroad, i can understand what is being said & hopefully can converse easily. I have time for 1 lesson per week for starters.
The teacher should be completely fluent in English.
