Hello, my name is Mike. I have about an intermediate proficiency level in Vietnamese, although I am a lot better with writing than with listening and pronunciation . I am interested in learning Vietnamese because I love Vietnamese culture, and I study Buddhism at a Vietnamese temple and would very much like to talk with my Sufu in his native language, as well as the other monastics there. I need improvement mostly with pronunciation and listening, and with learning, remembering and recognizing the tones of each particular word. It would be great to have lessons at least an hour or two a week, but more would be even better--like, an hour a day five days a week would be perfect! I would be very willing to study hard on my own as well. For my lessons, I would first like to learn correct tones and pronunciation like I said, and then practice conversation later on. I can already read Vietnamese pretty well, as I chant in Vietnamese every day at the temple. Of course, I know this is the easy part! If there is anyone in my city of Windsor Ontario, Canada who is able to help me I will be very, very grateful and I am willing to sacrifice quite a bit to pay for it although I am on a limited budget. We are 6 people (3 couples) planning to move to Vietnam next Summer 2009 for a longer period of time.
We are looking for a native speaker who can teach us some basics of language and also gives us an inside look into the Vietnamese culture.
W e are beginners and meetings should be on a regular basis.

I'd like to learn Vietnamese because my fiancees family speak it more then english. He always told me that he'd teach me it but with everything going on we just don't find time. My schedule is fairly open. I just wanted to surprise him as well. Hes going on a trip to Thailand so I was thinking that while he's gone might as well try to learn it.
