I was born in Pakistan, but moved to Canada when I was 7 years old. I have retained some Urdu, but feel that I am still a bit of a beginner.
I would love to master the language once again so that I may converse with my family back home, especially the older generations that do not understand English. I am looking to improve most on conversation skills and understanding . I am not concerned with writing, but rather to be able to have conversations comfortably with Urdu speaking people.
I am willing to dedicate as much time as needed to feel comfortable in Urdu speaking. I do, however, work full time and thus will need to study in the evenings.
As far as qualities I am looking for in a teacher, I would like someone patient and experienced. I am eager to learn, and would like someone who would be very supportive and encouraging.

My name is Autumn Reed, and I am a graduate student at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, I am in the process of applying to their Language, Literacy and Culture PhD. The majority of my research focuses on Pakistanis living in the United States and Pakistan. I, however, know very little Urdu and do not understand the writing system at all. Essentially, I need to learn how to read, write, speak and become a culturally competent speaker of Urdu. I am looking to pursue this on a part to full time basis. I am looking for a teacher that not only teaches grammar but also culture because language is a cultural construct.
