I am a community college administrator in the U.S. and teach technical writing in English to U.S. and Croatian students via web-based and video conferenced distance learning systems. I travel at least twice yearly to Istria and the northern Dalmatian coast as well as Zagreb, and am an associate professor at Politehnika Pula. I would like to learn Croatian beyond 'phrase book' level for my educational, business, and personal communication s. I can devote 2-4 hours per week via distance learning and independent study. I would appreciate the opportunity to read, e-mail, and converse in Croatian with my instructor and with other students and Croatian speakers on progressively more advanced levels as my facility with the language grows.

I am currently living with a host family in Orosi, Costa Rica and taking one on one Spanish classes. My teacher here says I´m at an intermidate level. When I return to Dallas (in August 2008)I would like to continue my language study in group or private classes. I´m a public school teacher so I would only be able to take classes at night or on the weekends. I prefer more conversationa l based classes, that are less formal than college classes. I feel like I am learning a lot here with the way classes are structured.

1.What is the language you want to learn? Polish
2.Wha t are your specific goals with it and how fast would you like to achieve that? I would like to learn the language along with my 5 and 7 year old because my husband is fluent and does not have time to teach us.
3.Do you have any BACKGROUND in the target language (level, experiences, used books)? We are at the begginer level we know about 30 words. My children have attended Polish Saturday school for the last 2 years, but have gained very little because English is their first language.
4.How much time are you willing/able to dedicate for learning it? Once a week for 1 to 3 hours.
5.Wha t form of classes do you prefer? (online or in person, individual, semi-ind., or group classes) in person, individual or group.

I would say an above average beginner I know all the hiragana and katakana and can recognize many expressions. The 'ga' and 'wa' i get confused with all the time as well as sentence formation is confusing for me.
I would say a couple hours on the weekends would be great or maybe like a couple hours after 7 I am eger to move to Japan as I am really in love with the culture.
I am just looking for a teacher who can speak the language and is dedicated and has a good idea of the modern Japan and business culture is a plus as well.
