My parents were both born and raised in Afghanistan and my sisters and I were born in New York. My mother is from Khandahar and my father is from Kabul. My sisters and I grew up speaking strictly Pashto at home, but my parents and my entire family speak both Pashto and Farsi. I know the basics of Farsi, but I want to be able to speak it fluently. I want to be able to keep a conversation with the elders in my family that speak only Farsi and eventually teach my children one day as well.
