I am Chinese born in the Unites States. I have learned rudimentary Cantonese from living with my grandma, however I speak English to my parents. Now that I am 30 years old and live on my own, I am not able to practice my Cantonese at all and I want to take some 'live, in person' classes for conversationa l Cantonese only (no grammar or writing). It is my goal to speak fluent Cantonese because, culturally, it is important to me. I also want to be confident when I speak Chinese in Chinatown or in Chinese restaurants and not be embarrassed. I would like to dedicate at least two 2 hour evening classes per week preferrably in a group class (not individual) in order to defray costs. I do not mind having weekend classes, if that is possible. I am looking for a teacher who can also speak English (does not have to be perfect) and can provide me with an organized program that I can follow. I consider myself intermediate and I think that I can re-learn many things very quickly, so a fast-paced instructor is acceptable. Thank you!!

I'm a beginner and im really interested in learning chinese.
I'm learning foreign language because i will be going to China soon and maybe going to school over there or for some career that why i need to learn chinese.
I need to learn the grammar and how to have a conversation and learning how to read the letter in chinese cantonese and mandarin, and i need to know how to understand other when they talk.
I want to dedicate as much time as i can to learn the language, i know it very hard but im willing to put all my time in to learn this.
I doesn't matter i want my teachers to teach me as much as i can and all that i need to know, both language of cantonese and mandarin.

i plan on doing medical mission work in brazil next year and would like to be able to communicate effectively with the people i will be serving. my current portuguese is limited to 'obrigda' and other simple phrases i learned during my last trip there. i work full time, so i don't have hours a day to spend studying, but i am willing to work hard to learn the language.
