I was born and raised in the usa. I am a bengali-ameri can who knows the language, but is not proficient and I do not feel confident in speaking conversationa lly. I find myself quiet and family and social events b/c I am insecure in my bengali ability. I am not completely ignorant in the language but I can tell my grammer and pronunciation is not always proper. I have a DEEP desire to speak the lanuage properly so that I can socialize with others in my culture wihtout always having to speak english, which to a lot of my relatives, isa a second language.

I am wanting to learn Arabic (Starting with Egyptian (Cairo) Arabic) in order to further pursue the Middle Eastern Arts that I teach. I teach Arabic dances, I am a henna artist, and I play the doumbec and sagat. I also do Bedouin style weaving. I have learned some Arabic through Pimsleur Egyptian Arabic CDs and Egyptian Vocabulary Clinic on the computer. I also have several books on Arabic although most are for Modern Standard Arabic. I would like to build my vocabulary and learn to translate the songs I dance to, such as Hakim's songs. How much time I can dedicate depends on the method of delivery and the cost. I can work on homework in the evenings after my 3 year old is in bed, but only 1 hour a week with an instructor at this time.
