I am an American but my grandfather (whom I sadly never knew) was Ethiopian. He visited the US only a couple times - once when my father was conceived and once when my father was 12 years old.
My grandmother, on the other hand, was African-Ameri can. I don't know my Ethiopian grandfather's name, but I must look just like him.
I speak very little Amharic (tinish tinish) but want to learn enough to hold a concersation. Since I look Ethiopian (because of my grandfather) Ethiopians who I encounter from time to time speak to me in Amharic, assuming that I speak it, too. It's a little embarrassing when I cannot respond.
I know fidel characters pretty good and know how to pronounce all the sounds. I can learn words on my own, but need help more with forming sentences and responding to questions.
If you live in a different city or state, that's fine and face to face instruction is not that necessary.
Also, I am a business consultant here in Los Angeles and have a couple Ethiopian clients.

I am attending college soon and was hoping that they would be offering Cambodian classes. However, they are not offering any. I would say my level would definitely be beginner and I want to learn Cambodian not only to expand my ability to be able to speak in different languages, (eng., viet., and still learning spanish), but I want to break down the language barrier I have with my Cambodian family. I want to have at least four or more hours a week with the class/tutor. And I would really like a tutor who not only knows how to teach the language, but is educated about the Cambodian customs and their culture. Not only that, but I'd definitely want a patient and humorous tutor because I think that having fun while learning a new language, is an easier technique when I'm learning something challenging.

I am interested in learning Egyptian Arabic and Arabic as well. I have already started to learn some but have had very little formal training. I have always had an interest in arabic and in the last 9 months or so have really started persuing it. I not only want to learn to speak but to read and write as well.
