I am learning Farsi (Persian) because upon graduation from the University of Miami in the spring, I will be a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry and will likely be deploying to Afghanistan in 2011. I think Farsi is a fascinating language and I have the utmost respect for Persian culture and history. I am proficient in spanish and somewhat conversationa l in Hebrew and I love learning new languages.

I already started to learn Farsi on Rosetta Stone-The U.S. Army provides the educational material free of charge. I just completed Unit 1, level 1, and I already feel like I'm making alot of progress. Obviously I am a beginner.

I will be needing a Farsi tutor for at least one school year (September-De cember, January-May) and I want to at least be conversationa l in Farsi by the end of spring. I plan on spending several hours a week learning Farsi. Maybe a 2 hours a day, 3 times a week. I'm not sure yet.

I would like me teacher to be young and energetic. Someone who thinks outside the box to get me enthusiastic about the language. I also want someone who is either Afghani or Iranian to teach me about the culture as well. I want a language AND culture lesson. My goal is to become a knowledgeable and trusted officer while deployed so I don't need to lean as hard on translators.
