Description

I have a good basic knowledge of the Norwegian language - mostly through self-study with the aid of books and tapes. I read local newspapers and watch televised programs, although I can only do so at length and with a satisfactory comprehension when teletext subtitles are available for a given program.

I am learning Norwegian in order to fully function as a resident in Norway; I need to become proficient so as to work using the language.

I need particular improvement in conversation (verbal and listening language skills) and writing. The wide range of Norwegian dialects that are in acceptable use makes standardized listening comprehension a particular hurdle which I would like to overcome.

Since Norwegian is not the operational language in my home (English is), I have too little exposure to the language and would like to devote 15-20 hours per week in intensive language training. I am prepared to continue the study lessons on my own time.

I am looking for a teacher who enunciates clearly and speaks with refinement. I do not have the custom of using slang expressions in my native language, and I have an ear that is sensitive to 'harshness' of tone or dialect. The aesthetics and the mechanics of the language are equally important to me.

I am also looking for a teacher who is prepared to proceed through elements of lessons at a fast pace - commensurate with my own ability.
