Hello, my name is John. My girlfriend is from Sao Paulo and I am very keen to learn Brazilian Portuguese so that I can communicate properly with her family and friends in their own language next time I'm in Brazil. Also, I find it a matter of respect. She has learned my language, and I wish to repay her in kind.
I spent some time in Brazil in 2013 and picked up some words while I was there, but to say that I am anything other than a beginner at Portuguese would be untrue. I would like to focus my learning on conversationa l language and grammar, to begin with at least. In terms of how much time I can commit to this, as much as I wish it could be more, with my job, I can only seriously commit to one or two lessons per week.
I would hope that any teacher would be, if not a native speaker of the language, at least fluent and fully competent in all areas of the language and able to convey the required information in a clear manner.
