Description

I have been interested in Thai language and culture for forty years. During the Vietnam War, I attended the Defense Language Institute's intensive Thai course and I served as a Thai translator for three years. Since that time I have practiced Thai sporadically but have, of course, forgotten a great deal. I would like to resume my studies of Thai in order to read about Thai history and culture in Thai and to communicate with Thai people. There is a large contingent of Thai people in my region, and I see the opportunity to get to know some of them. In addition, I would like to travel to Thailand, and, in that case, I would want my oral and aural skills to improve greatly beyond what they are now. I see myself as intermediate, and I would like to continue my studies until I am advanced. I am interested in finding a teacher who is experienced in communicative methodologies and who can provide suggestions for reading that will gradually improve my proficiency.
