What does "craic" mean?

Although I'm not a speaker of Irish Gaelic, I've always heard "craic" used as a term for fun. For example, someone might ask, "How was the craic down at the pub?" Or someone will ask, "Did you have a good time?" The answer could be, "Yeah - great craic!"
