Hi, I need a simple translation English-Serbian for a MOVIE!
Hello!
I'm a movie producer/actor /writer currently living and working in New York, US and I'm on the early pre-production of a feature lenght film. One of the characters in the film is from YUGOSLAVIA and I need him to talk in Serbo-Croatian to his mother on the phone. It's a very simple conversation, and he learns his Mom's boyfriend had been shot. Anyhow I'd like to translate this:
-"Hi Mom, how are you doing? I'm all right... what? What happened? He was shot! ... Oh my God, that's terrible. Time to move on Mom... I talk to you later. Love you too. Bye."
That's it, and if possible I'd like to get the way each word is pronounced.
Regards

Re:English speaker needs help to learn Serbian
Hi, Jenny!
There are some lessons from me here, look in the section ACTIVITIES/GAMES under the common title SERBIAN/CROAT/BOSNIAN. There are more to follow. If you have some questions, just post them on the board. I’ll answer them.

Re:serbian..meaning of Oluja...
Years ago I had a friend whose family name was Olujiæ. Our family names very often derived from the first names, so it’s probable that my friend had some ancestor named Oluja. It must have been a strong person, a kind of Rambo, sweeping away everything on his way. As a nickname it could mean that you don’t fear any obstacles, that you, like the hurricane lead your team to victory. It could also signal that you are very impulsive, but without much substance. Maybe you react like the strong wind: You raise a huge cloud of dust, you destroy many things that happen to be on your way, you hurt the feelings of other people. When the weather calms, the wind is gone, but there remains something destroyed. Anyway, be sure, everybody likes to have companions who tend to be Oluja rather then a lull.
By the way, if you are interested in the Serbian/Croatian/Bosnian language, just look in the section Activities and Games.

SERBIAN/CROATIAN/BOSNIANH
, everybody interested in Serbian, Croatian or Bosnian!I’ve seen that some people would like to learn those idioms and also that some other offer their help. The problem is that the two sides probably don’t know how to do that. Let us try this way:I will post my lessons and additional material on the BULLETIN BOARD and in the CLUB LIBRARY (Language 1 Serbian, language 2 English). There will be also WORD GAMES in the language section SERBIAN (SERBO-CROATIAN), type OTHER, related to the words and expressions used in the lessons. I’ll inform you within the lessons, which category of game you should select. I hope you’ll enjoy them. You should consult the BULLETIN BOARD (Activities and Games). Click the option VIEW ALL MESSAGES and look for the title SERBIAN/CROATIAN/BOSNIAN. The message will contain the necessary instructions and the reference on the previous messages, which make part of our course.Your comments, especially concerning the different forms of expression in Serbian, Croatian or Bosnian, are welcome. They are very similar but not identical. I’m obviously no native English speaker but I’ll do my best. If you help me improve my English, you’ll automatically improve the quality of our course. Don’t forget to look up in the CLUB LIBRARY! You’ll find a lot of useful expressions, but also some rubbish (not from me!).

Re:Please teach me Serbian!
Hello, Stephanie ! (Halo, Stefani; Zdravo, Stefani)

I like your readiness to learn Serbian and I’ll help you a little bit to get started. The most important in learning something isn’t the coach, but your own will, your motivation and your inventiveness in looking for resources that slowly, I repeat, slowly lead you to the goal. There are many Serbs, Croats and Bosnian Moslems who now live in Toronto. I know the mentality of my former countrymen and I encourage you to contact them and say, you would like to learn their language. They’ll be happy to help you. There is difference between the Serbian, the Croat and the Bosnian (the newest name for more or less the same language) but never mind, for the time being. The differences are far less than between the continental and the American English.
Go to any public library and take some basic textbook with CD, DVD or audiocassette.
Search in Internet using the keyword SERBIAN or SRPSKI JEZIK and you’ll find something useful. Look up in the B.Board of this site and you’ll find a lot of young men offering their help in Serbian in exchange for English.
In my next message I will give you an insight in the pronunciation. In the meantime look up in the section CLUB LIBRARY(Language 1 Serbian, Language 2 English). At the moment the vocabulary is pretty poor and chaotic, but I am going to put there some expressions and single words, just to start with. There is a problem thou. The letters with additional accents above very often get distorted.
Good luck! (Srecno !)

Re:Serbian/Russian
If you really will learn one of them, you must forget about the other - for the time beeing. They are similar, but what seams so similar to you turns very often to have another meaning. Your oncle will love you even if you don't speak russian. Your friend will love you more if you show interest for his language and his cultural tradition.

Dovidjenja i pazi se.
Good-buy and take care of yourself.
