Details:

Translation Experience

I am a qualified translator of English/Bulgarian (I am a native speaker of BG). I have around 6 years of freelance translation experience in both Bulgaria and the UK.
I have been freelancing for different translation agencies in Bulgaria: Steady (Asenovgrad), Steady (Varna), Translingua (Varna), Speak (Varna) , for my company clients (Hermes Resonance ArtGroup (an avant garde art group from Veliko Tarnovo), Radio Varna, Rembrandt Art School (Gorna Oriahovitsa), as well as many individual clients.
I have also worked freelance for The Refugee Legal Centre, London in 2002. There I got significant experience in translating immigration matters, criminal law and newspaper English. My international experience also involves freelance subtitling and proofreading for the Italian branch of Softitler Inc. (a subtitling company).
I have translated texts from various fields of the language: fiction, grant application, technical (chemicals, tools, oil rig platforms), health and safety, media, art, medicine, journalism, law (criminal law, insurance claims, immigration matters, power of attorneys), food (organic products), biology (fish, poisonous animals), rock climbing and mountaineering.
In 2003 I started working for the Bulgarian office of SDI Media subtitling company (online work). However, my husband and I relocated back to the UK in January 2004, and are currently staying in Manchester. I would like to continue my translation work from the UK.

Teaching Experience

I have worked as an EFL Teacher in Bulgaria for around 3 years.
My interpersonal skills are very good as I have extensive experience in communication with students of different age groups and levels of knowledge from my TEFL teaching. I have worked with students of English aged 5 to adults, across almost all levels of command of the English (from beginners to advanced, and English for specific purposes). I have worked with different formats of teaching: small group work, class work, and individual tuition. I enjoy teaching and try to teach the cultural context, not only the textbook language.

Additional skills and courses:

PA/Secretarial Course - London Keyboard and Computer College (2002)

I am computer literate and can use Word to a proficient level. I have good working knowledge of Excel, Outlook, very good PowerPoint, and good Access. I can also use the Internet for searching and finding information, and emailing. Through my interest in graphic design, I have learned how to use graphics programs like Coreldraw and Photoshop.
I can do touch-typing and audio typing.

Medical Terminology Course - organised by the NHS in 2002, UK

I attended the two levels of this course organised by NHS in Great Britain, when I worked as a part-time Clerical Assistant at a medical centre in London. It gave me a lot of knowledge required for the job of medical staff, e.g. medical secretarial.

I can provide references regarding my work, both teaching and translation, on request.
