Passive form

by Can Pang

皆さん、

おはようございます。(Good morning everyone)

今日は受身形について説明したいと思います。 (Today, i’ll like to share about Passive form)
_________________________________________________

まず、受身形の変え方を見ましょう。 (First of all, let’s take a look at how to change)

Group 1: Change to ない-form, remove 「ない」 and add 「れます」

E.g: 行きますー>行かないー>行かー>行かれます。
Group 2: Remove 「ます」, then add 「られます」 . Same as 可能形

E.g: 「食べます」->たべー>たべられます。

Group 3: 「します」ー>「されます」, 「来ます」ー>「こられます」
_________________________________________________
Japanese passive action is broken up into 直接受身 (direct passive) and 間接受身 (indirective passive/also known as 迷惑受身(めいわくうけみ) or 被害受身 (ひがいうけみ) ) .

Example of direct passive

「田中さんは木村さんに殺されました」
The subject (田中さん) received an direct action (殺されました) by someone (木村さん).

Example of indirect passive

「私は弟にパソコンを壊されました」
The subject (私) received some effect (trouble/hurt) from the computer breakdown caused by the action of 弟。

「私は電車の中で足を踏まれました」
_________________________________________________
Words like 「書く、作る、建てる、発明する、発見する、設計する」 will most of the time be accompanied by 「によって」

Example:

アメリカはコロンブスによって発見されました。
_________________________________________________

It seems quite hard to understand indirect passive. Some other parts which are quite hard to understand are

Examples:

私のパソコンは妹に壊されました。

私の靴が女の人の靴に踏まれました。

The above 2 statements are grammatically incorrect. The correct answers should be

私は妹にパソコンを壊されました。

私は女の人に靴を踏まれました。

What you can do to break this barrier is to watch more dramas, shows to understand how Japanese use it.
Have a good day ahead~! (^_^)

/Can
