I like to travel to Mexico and South America and ride motorcycles. So far I have always gone with a guide, the only reason I coud not travel on my own is 'I dont speak Spanish' maybe un poco! I have taken classes and self study courses, and thats all fine, but what I've really figures out is you have to practice the language and often if you want to learn it.
