I am a retiree living in Chiang Mai and want to learn Thai so I can become more independent (not have to rely on others to either speak English or translate for me). I also believe since I will be living here I should know the language. I have had Thai lessons in the United States and am currently taking them from a private tutor now. My present course of study is two-hours per class, three times a week, which I would like to continue or even increase.
I am interested in learning to converse in, read, and write Thai. I do have difficulties distinquishin g the tones so the teacher needs to be patient and have a sense of humor. I am a visual learner-I comprehend more when I see things in a written format. Also, I ask questions so I can understand the history of why things are done a certain way in speech or writing. Preference is for one-on-one instruction by a qualified instructor who is a native speaker.
