I wish to take Swahili lessons as I am planning to begin a PhD research project in Kenya mid next year. I have a very basic level of Swahili (greetings, numbers, animals, foods) but cannot form sentences of make basic conversation. I would like to reach this level before going next year. I would like to have at least one lesson per week. More would be preferable but I probably can only afford one, as I don't have a lot of money and need to save quite a lot for the research I hope to do next year.
I am looking for a teacher who can take me beyond the basics to proper conversationa l skills and basic grammar. I am hoping to learn to speak Swahili in a way that is practical to use in Kenya. I am not particularly interested in the history of the language or formal grammar. Preferably my teacher would be a native Swahili speaker.
