I am planning an adventure tour in China this October, and I would like to be able to meet people and ask simple questions along the way. I have never studied Chinese, but I find it a very fascinating language, very different from the other languages I know or am acquainted with. I am also fluent in German (the language of my parents), have studied French and traveled in France using only my French. I am a singer, so I am also familiar with most European languages, and have performed in Russian and Hebrew. My schedule is very full, so I am looking to maximize my study with one-on-one tutoring once a week. I am not expecting to be proficient in Chinese by October, but rather to be familiar with the sounds, general pronunciation , and to be able to meet people and ask simple questions.

Good morning,
I am a beginner Chinese-Manda rin student who has been studying the language for the past 6-months. I am currently using the following methods:
1 ) Rosetta Stone - Chinese Mandarin
2) Various books/textboo ks/newspapers/ learning aids (e.g. flash cards - such as the 'Chinese in a Flash' product)
3) Classroom study
Howe ver, I believe that studying with a tutor who is fluent in Mandarin will significantly accelerate my ability to learn the language.
Please find below some additional description information:
- Proficiency level: Beginner
- Areas in which I need improvement: Speaking/conv ersation, reading, writing, listening
- Time available to dedicate to lessons: 1-2 hours a week
- Qualities looking for in the lessons: Emphasis on conversation (listening & speaking)
