I am interested in learning basic conversationa l Mandarin. I am a beginner and know only a couple of words, and no Chinese language theory. Though I live in Toronto and grew up here, my father has lived in Shanghai for several years and I have been to visit him several times there. On my most recent visit, I decided that it was about time that I learned enough of the language to be able to converse with the people I've come to know there and be able to make my way around the city. I am not interested in learning the language for business purposes or in being able to write. My schedule is complicated and being a part of a regularly scheduled class is difficult for me, so ideally I'm looking for a teacher that I can meet (somewhere downtown Toronto or close to downtown) once a week for 1 - 2 hours each time, on a weekday evening (preferably Wednesdays or Thursdays) for private lessons. My instructor would need to be flexible to a degree, I can commit to appointments only one week in advance without any risk of cancellation. I have a car and can travel to you if that helps. I'm very much looking forward to impressing my father and my new friends in Shanghai on my next trip!

I am a college student majoring in International Relations, with a regional specializatio n in Eastern Asia. I am studying Japanese as part of this major, and Chinese as part of my minor field of study. I cannot study Korean at my College, so I have started trying to learn it on my own, with limited success.
I am primarily looking for someone who can teach Korean.
