I am living in China and would like to make the experience more enjoyable. I am also highly interested in Chinese culture and the language itself. I would like to dedicate about 3-5 hours per week if the classes are not too expensive. I would like organized lessons from a pleasant and kind teacher. I would prefer a female but I am flexible. I have given my self many good career oriented reasons why I want to learn Mandarin--but I am not sure they are really why. I just want to know it--and have for many years. Writing and reading are also high priorities for me. I am an artist and writing is part of my motivation.
I am a beginner who is working with Rosetta Stone software, books and Internet sites. So far I 'think' I'm doing well--but who knows? I particularly need to understand grammer as Rosetta Stone software is quite good at showing various forms of speaking--but not strong in helping you know which form to use when creating a new sentence.
Currently, I spend around 5 or 6 hours per week in practice. Sometimes much more--sometim es less.
I am looking for a class and teacher to allow me opportunity to ask questions as they arise in my learning that require a native speaker. My goal is to be as close to accent free as possible and to speak in an educated manner. Additionally, I hope to be able to grow with this teacher.
C ost is a concern as is time. I am married with an 8 year old son and have many draws on my time. Still--I am doing this as best as I can.

I have already learnt around 1000 chinese characters,I saw Ms. Maureen's profile stating that she has done her HSK,advanced level. I would like to attempt HSK basic test.I would like to take her guidances how to go about it, and whether any special coaching is needed to pass this.I would like to persue this for my career advancement.
