I am learning French to enhance my career. I currently work for Essilor of America, which is a French owned company based in Paris France.
I would give myself a proficiency level of beginner. I have studied Rosetta Stone through level 2 and I am currently on level 2 of Pimsleur. Rosetta Stone seems to be good for learning vocabulary, while Pimsleur is better for conversationa l, but I think an instructor would help guide me to improve faster. I feel that I can comfortably spend 2 hours a day studying French. I also have a 2 hour commute per day that allows me to listen to French on an IPOD.

Well, the reason why i want to leanr standard arabic is that i am a muslim and my whole religion is based on the arabic language. I dont like to trust translators because their human beings and they might make a mistake. I would be find with translators if it was anything else. However this is my religion i cant afford to read thee wrong translation. Then i would fall into invovation and that's very serious.

I am interested in learning languages because I plan on traveling and living abroad after I finish school. I have studied Arabic in college for a semester and traveled to Egypt, Israel, and Jordan. I lived in Tanzania for three months and can speak on an intermediate level. My Arabic is probably high beginner, I can read and write, but definitely need improvement speaking and listening.
I am also interested in learning French and Spanish, because they are very useful languages. Particularly French because I am planning to travel and work in Africa. I am on the beginner level for both of these languages.
I do not have a need to be extremely fluent in any of these languages, just want to be very competent. However I am very motivated to learn and will always be prepared and eager for new information. During class time I would like to have teachers who conduct the lessons not in english, and a lot of conversation in the language being learned as this is how I learn best.

My name is Kim VanderVoort and I'm a rising sophomore at NYU. I'm an Italian major, and have always had an affinity for foreign language study. This semester, I took a course in Russian History and have become incredibly fascinated with Russian culture, and consequently the Russian language. Because of scheduling reasons, I cannot take Elementary Russian in the Fall, so I'm considering the possibility of testing into Intermediate Russian. I am a very hard worker and tend to learn languages easily (I completed an entire year of French one summer a few years ago). I am willing to take lessons as often as every day. With your knowledge of the language and teaching it, do you think this would be possible to do this over the summer?
