Podcasting using Garageband: Introducing a Famous Chinese Celebrity

by Patrick Ong

Podcasting using GarageBand
Integrating technology into language education has been proven to help learners absorb grammar concepts quickly.  It also helps learners self-assess their performance.

For this exercise, we will be researching on a Chinese celebrity, and producing a podcast introducing that celebrity.

DIRECTIONS:

On the Internet or in your library, RESEARCH on any Chinese celebrity of your choice.  You may choose a political icon (e.g. Mao Zedong), a celebrity (e.g. Jackie Chan), or even a writer (e.g. Amy Tan).  Make sure you get the following information taken down, at the very least:

1. Name
2. Nationality
3. Place of Birth and Residence
4. Age
5. Birthday and Year of Birth
6. Family Members: Number, Names and Nationalities
7. Occupation
8. Likes, dislikes, hobbies

Once you have the information above, open GarageBand on your Mac.  Produce a podcast, featuring pictures and a recorded spiel containing the above info.  Export into AAC format.

This exercise will help you learn more about famous Chinese people, and to practice your oral communication skills (message/content, and language use).

Please contact me for any clarifications or additional instructions given the software required.
