The Hungarian orthography based on the Latin alphabet, but it has more speech sounds.

Because of it Hungarian uses some symbols on vowels (accents) - á, é, and letter combinations for consonants - cs, dz, gy, etc.

In alphabet there are 44 letters.

Vowel without a symbol or two small dots on it is: SHORT

Vowel with one or two accents on it (like / or // on it)  is: LONG (longer pronunciation time - double long like a short one).

There is a short vowel which usually has its long pair:

E e -  este                        É é - kérés

I i - kicsi                           Í í - sír

O o      Ó ó - olcsó
