Teaching Approach

Lessons begin with a dialogue using a modern conversationa l style in English. The material is first presented orally with actions or pictures. The mother tongue is never used. There is no translation. The preferred type of exercise is a series of questions in the target language based on the dialogue or an anecdotal narrative. Questions are answered in the target language. Grammar rules are taught and are generalized from the practice and experience with the target language. Verbs are used first and systematicall y conjugated only much later after some oral mastery of the target language. Advanced students read literature for comprehension and pleasure.

Program Description

I shall provide an appropriate planned instructional program for students whose dominant language is not English. The goal of the ESL Program is to provide English language learners with instructional support that will enable them to participate fully in their educational experience in school and in their social lives. I will implement the use of textbooks, comics, videos. The objective is to develop proficiency in the language domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Teaching Experience

I have been in a couple of instructional roles. I trained police dispatchers for three years how to take 911 emergency calls actually dispatching the calls to the police officers. I have also been a teacher for the deaf and taught them the rules of English and other studies they were involved in.

Teacher Training

I have received my certificate in Teaching Ensligh as a Second Language, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

I have an Associates degree and am presently in my 3rd-year of university to finish off my Bachelor's degree.
