Latin focuses strongly on memorising grammar tables, verb patterns and application of the rules to unravel a sentence . It is therefore important to teach students how to learn, recall and apply their knowledge in a methodical manner. I teach students to look at any Latin sentence as a puzzle- piece the puzzle together by identifying how each word fits into the puzzle based on its context and sense. Precision and accuracy is key to gaining the high marks. I know how papers and marked and the answers examiners are looking for. I even make my own questions for GCSE set texts when there are no past papers to go as the set text changes every 3 years. The questions I tip and make mirror those that actually come up in the exams.
Vocab ulary learning is also a hurdle to be overcome in Latin. The GCSE vocab list comprises 475 words for the Higher Tier exam. I ask students to think about the English derivative to the Latin word and to use this to help them remember the word. I make my own silly ways to help them remember words that have no English derivative and it usually works! With younger learners, flashcards are useful too, but I choose my methods based on the type of learner the student is and their learning style. I identify their weaknesses and work on them. I am a perfectionist and I push my students to perform to the best of their ability by being encouraging, motivating and firm.

I was born and educated in the UK and I did Latin for GCSE and A Level. I have been a private Latin tutor for 13+ Common Entrance Exams and GCSE/IGCSE since 2005. I am completely conversant with the syllabi for both Common Entrance and other prestigious UK boarding schools, such as Winchester College, Harrow School, Sevenoaks School, and CLC, to name a few. At GCSE level, I teach both the OCR and CIE syllabi. No student I have taught has achieved less than an A, with over 90% achieving A*s. I am also familiar the NLE for the US and have experience teaching the SAT Latin subject test. Lessons are conducted in my office in Central.

I have taught Latin for Common Entrance and Winchester College and other UK schools since 2005. I have taught Latin GCSE for the OCR and CIE syllabi since 2006. in recent years, I have started to focus on the US schools as well and prepared students for the NLE and SAT Latin subject test.

I teach Mondays to Sundays, but after school times and Saturdays are limited due to existing students. Lessons are generally held in my office in Central.
Lessons for prepaid for that month on 1st of every month. Cancellations must be given at least 24hrs prior to the start of the lesson, otherwise the lesson is full charged. In case of sickness, lessons will not be charged but a medical certificate must be provided. Lessons can be rescheduled to an alternative time with sufficient notice given. If the lesson cannot be conducted due to sickness or weather, or other emergencies, the fee for that lesson will be fully refunded.
My time slots are flexible and I also teach on public holidays. I love Latin and this passion rubs off on my students. They love to learn not only the language, but Greek myths and heroes, Roman culture and legends, the Roman army and Roman Britain (which are also part of the Common Entrance syllabus).
