I believe wholey in the exploration of language. Language learning comes best when the learner is motivated by interest in the material content. My approach is to work one on one with learners discovering their interests and using those interests to chose activities and texts accordingly. I do not believe in drills as being a major part of learning a language. As I said before, exploration is key!

Program Description

There are those who need English as a survival skill. In those cases lessons will focus on how to get on in an English speaking environment (e.g. reading street signs, ordering food, some culture, street talk, directions etc.).
On the other hand, there are those who learn English for "fun." This means that lessons may be less practical.
I try to make lessons as interesting as possible but I truely believe that learners must have a desire if they are to learn.

Teaching Experience

I currently work as a tutor in a language center at my college. My tutees include mostly those from Asia and the pacific. Other regions include Brazil and Spanish speaking countries.
B efore working at the language center I helped teach in a learning center where my collegues and I taught students from Southeast Asia to speak English.
I mostly have experience with true beginners and those who speak English well but desire to improve their communication skills.

Teacher Training

Taken classes for teaching reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the English language. I have also studied linguistics and English grammar.
C ertifications: I am actually in my senior year of school and will graduate this summer with my B.A. degree in TESOL.
Org anizations: I belong to my local TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language) society (Hawaii TESOL). I have also been interacting and communicating long distance with members of our sister organization in Ukraine.

-I do most of my teaching in the afternoon or evening. Night times are available if required.

-Pay ment due before lesson if lesson is not in person.
If lesson are in person then private arrangements may be made.
What other relevant experience makes you a more effective teacher?
-I live in a place where I am surrounded by people from all over the world. Not only am I surrounded by them but I speak and interact with them daily. Therefore, I am aware of many of the problems different cultures and languages face when seeking to learn English.

Extr a tutoring on the side will not cost anything as long as the tutoring is pertinent to what was taught in the lesson.
