Teaching Approach

I use a traditional language teaching method of listen/repeat to reinforce correct pronunciation . I interact with all students many times during the hour to allow them to get comfortable speaking French (even at the beginning level). I give and correct homework which is essential for language study. What makes my courses unique is the fact that the numbers are small and the students get individualize d attention in a group setting. Each one gets my time during each class. I make sure that all understand any concept before moving on. Should a student miss I get in touch with him/her and discuss the class and send them the assignments. Thus, all students are always aware of what is going on and advancing. I treat each person as if she/her were my only student. I supplement my courses with articles from French website (newspapers, etc) that my intermediate students read. I bring in guest speakers (from France/Canada /French speaking African countries). Most of all, we have fun and the students always say that that is one of the main reasons they keep coming back. Most of my students say they become comfortable in speaking French with native speakers after even just two series of classes (16 weeks).

Program Description

Alliance Francaise small French language classes for adults. Taught in a place close to downtown Tampa in evenings. All levels available. Reasonably priced; $210/8/2 hour classes. Private classes available.

Teaching Experience

seven years teaching at the Alliance Francaise in Tampa.
Taught high school (Kansas and Missouri and France) for 17 years. Taught undergraduate French students at the University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas. Taught English to French students in Clermont Ferrand, France.

I teach M-F (group and private classes). I have group classes in evenings (and some private students). I have private students during the day. All group students pay for the entire session the 1st night of class ($210) (8 classes) Private students pay for four classes at the first meeting. Private classes are: $50/hour. Living in France has made me an effective French teacher. Having taught students of all ages and having been a French teacher for nearly four decades has given me the experience necessary to find the right method for each and every student. I understand why students make mistakes and what motivates or frustrates them. I capitalize on their successes and (due to my experience) can tell them how to be successful.
